A series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket

În decembrie, Luca a primit de la fratele lui continuarea seriei aventurilor orfanilor Baudelaires, aici referindu-mă la volumul trei „The wide widow” și patru, „The miserable mill”, cele care nu au apucat să fie traduse în românește. Dar iată că, la final de decembrie, cei de la Editura Arthur au tradus volumul trei, așa doritorii putându-l achiziționa de la noi din țară.

Dragă Cititorule

Dacă nu ai citit niciodată nimic despre orfanii Baudelaire, înainte să mai citești fie și o singură propoziție trebuie să știi următoarele: Violet, Klaus și Sunny sunt niște copii buni la inima și iuți la minte, însă viețile lor, îmi pare rău să zic asta, sunt pline de ghinioane și nenorociri. Toate poveștile despre acești trei copii sunt nefericite și sumbre, iar cea pe care-o ții acum în mână s-ar putea să fie cea mai tristă dintre toate.

Dacă nu ai curajul să citești o poveste în care e vorba, printre altele, despre un uragan, un dispozitiv de semnalizare, niște lipitori flămânde, supa rece de castraveți, un ticalos sinistru și-o păpușă pe nume Penny Perfecta, atunci cartea de față probabil te va umple de deznădejde.

Eu voi continua cronica acestor tragice întâmplări, căci asta mi-e menirea. Tu însă trebuie să decizi singur dacă poți îndura o poveste nefericită.

Lemony Snicket was born before you were and is likely to die before you as well. He was born in a small town where the inhabitants were suspicious and prone to riot. He grew up near the sea and currently lives beneath it. Until recently, he was living somewhere else.

Brett Helquist was born in Ganado, Arizona, grew up in Orem, Utah, and now lives in New York City. He earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Brigham Young University and has been illustrating ever since. His art has appeared in many publications, including Cricket magazine and The New York Times.
